  1. This file outlines recent changes to WinZip.  Please see the online help
  2. file more additional information.

  4. Features marked with an asterisk are available only under Windows 3.1 or
  5. if the Common Dialog Boxes are installed on a Windows 3.0 system.  Other
  6. features are available under both Windows 3.0 and 3.1.
  7.  
  8. The following changes were made in WinZip 3.2:
  9.  
  10. - Added Built-in ZIP Extraction so that PKUNZIP is not needed for most ZIP
  11. extract operations.  WinZip always uses PKZIP.EXE to modify ZIP files.
  12.  
  13. * Added font selection for the list of files in an archive.  By default
  14. WinZip uses the font you specified in the Windows File Manager.
  15.  
  16. - Added an "Overwrite existing files" check box to the Extract dialog box
  17. to prevent accidentally overwriting existing files.
  18.  
  19. - If a DOS command (for example, PKUNZIP or SCAN) running as an icon
  20. prompts for user input, WinZip will automatically bring the DOS session to
  21. the foreground.
  22.  
  23. - If you modify a file after double clicking on it, WinZip will offer to
  24. update the archive with the modified file.
  25.  
  26. - WinZip now uses the file WINZIP.INI instead of WIN.INI to save options.
  27. WIN.INI is only used for the WinZip version number, to help prevent
  28. accidental sharing of WINZIP.INI files.
  29.  
  30. - Added the "Optional ZIP temporary directory" entry to the Configuration
  31. dialog box.
  32.  
  33. Minor changes/fixes include:
  34.  
  35. - WinZip changes its title bar while it is running DOS commands.
  36.  
  37. - Longer pathnames are allowed in the Configuration and Program Locations
  38. dialog boxes.
  39.  
  40. - The size of the "normal" WinZip window is now saved if you close WinZip
  41. while it is iconized.
  42.  
  43. The following changes were made in WinZip 3.1b:
  44.  
  45. * Added ability to drag and drop files from WinZip to other applications.
  46.   WinZip will extract the files before dropping them on the target
  47.   application.  The target application will treat the files as if they had
  48.   been dropped by the File Manager.
  49.  
  50. - Added a new error message for the unsupported NAV and NAVW virus
  51.   scanners.
  52.  
  53. - Added a registration database check if no association is found when the
  54.   user double clicks on a file or uses the CheckOut feature.
  55.  
  56. - Fixed a bug that prevented WinZip from opening ZIP files with very long
  57.   ZIP comments.
  58.  
  59. The following changes were made in WinZip 3.1a:
  60.  
  61. - Increased the background priority in the WZ.PIF file.  This change can
  62. double the speed of long running ZIP/UNZIP operations.
  63.  
  64. - The right mouse button now works the same way as in the Norton Desktop
  65. for Windows File Manager.  You can use it to select non-adjacent entries
  66. in the main WinZip listbox.  Note that holding down the Ctrl key while
  67. pressing the left mouse button performs the same function.
  68.  
  69. - You can save WinZip settings without exiting WinZip by holding down
  70. the shift key while double clicking on the system menu or while
  71. selecting File/Close.  This was done by request for additional
  72. compatibility with the Windows 3.1 File Manager and Program Manager.

  74. - The Drag and Drop dialog box edit field is pre-loaded with the current
  75. directory if there is no open archive.
  76.  
  77. The following changes were made in WinZip 3.1:

  79. * Added support for Windows 3.1 Drag and Drop Interface
  80.  
  81. - Added support for Norton Desktop for Windows 2.0 Drag and Drop
  82.   Interface
  83.  
  84. * Enhanced Extract dialog box with common dialog directory and drive
  85.   list
  86.  
  87. * Added check box to automatically open the Add dialog when creating a
  88.   new archive
  89.  
  90. - Added Test action for ZIP and LZH files
  91.  
  92. - Changed pull-down menu choices for Windows 3.1 compatibility
  93.   - Cosmetic changes (e.g. capitalization)
  94.   - Changed Sort by extension to Sort by Type
  95.   * Added Help/Search menu entry
  96.   - Deleted Help/Help for keys
  97.  
  98. - Replaced Options/Defaults dialog with Save Settings on Exit menu entry
  99.   for compatibility with the Windows 3.1 File Manager and Program
  100.   Manager
  101.  
  102. - Added ability to specify drive for the optional log file in
  103.   Option/Configuration dialog box
  104.  
  105. - Added "Save path information" check box to Add dialog box
  106.  
  107. - Switched to an 8 point font in dialog boxes for consistency with
  108.   Windows 3.1 applets
  109.  
  110. * Added file types ZIP, LZH, and ARC to New and Open dialog boxes
  111.  
  112. - The default directory for Extract operations is now "sticky".  In
  113.   earlier versions of WinZip the default was always the directory
  114.   containing the archive.  If you prefer the old behavior, select the
  115.   "current directory" radio button in the "Extract To" group in the
  116.   Configuration dialog box.

  118. - Dates are displayed in mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy format depending on the
  119.   system date format
